The Nine Faces of the Enneagram

Spiritual growth is about removing the obstacles that limit our experience of knowing ourselves more consciously and gradually recognizing that our true self is an expression of the divine.

-Margaret Loftus

The Enneagram is a rich tool full of wisdom to help individuals know themselves as well as help them understand the people in their life. An understanding of the Enneagram provides spiritual directors a greater awareness of their own inner life and a deeper understanding of the inner life of those they companion.

At work, most of us have come across personality typing and testing. According to Father Richard Rohr, the Enneagram is a system with a difference, offering a means of “self-discovery and spiritual transformation.” Many spiritual directors would agree. This 4-part webinar series, led by Australian spiritual director Margaret Loftus, an author and Enneagram teacher in the narrative tradition, will offer an introduction as well as a closer look at each of the nine types of Enneagram. Each session is on a separate recording. All four sessions (4 hours plus of education) are included in one price.

The aim is to give spiritual directors insight into their own formation and spiritual experience while at the same time teaching them ways to draw their directees into a deeper self-awareness.

Session 1 “Introduction to the Enneagram”

This session will give a brief history of the Enneagram, an outline of the true and false selves and an overview of the Nine types.

Session 2 “The Gut or Instinct Centers: Types 8, 9, 1″

In this session, you will learn how these personality types – 8, 9 and 1 – are motivated by their instincts and consciously or unconsciously are concerned with power and justice.

Session 3 “The Heart or Feeling Centers: Types 2, 3, 4″

Session three considers how types 2, 3 and 4 maintain a personal identity. Each type has an underlying feeling of unworthiness. These three types seek attention or validation from others.

Session 4 “The Head or Thinking Center: Types 5, 6, 7″

In this session, we will observe that people operating from this center focus on an inner sense of guidance and support. Types 5, 6 and 7 have underlying feelings of fear and anxiety and are concerned with security and survival.
