Duration

This workshop is a great training for those who want to diversify their offerings as spiritual companions, and those who want to grow their practices.

In This Workshop, You Will Learn:

  • what your “online identity” or “online style” is and how to refine it
  • how to hold contemplative space and deliver content virtually
  • best practices in adult online learning applied to the world of spirituality
  • how to live-stream an online offering or retreat
  • steps for how to take your retreat virtual, or improve your existing virtual retreat.
  • engaging the senses over Zoom
  • and more!

Few practitioners in the realm of spiritual renewal will have escaped the last year of sea changes — in visiting holy places, gathering with fellow seekers, or serving others in-person. We have lurched into the world of online spiritual connection, just beginning to catch up with others who have been moving in that direction for years. When the waves of pandemic fade, we are almost certain to continue listening in a world unlike the one we left. Online meetings will be considered an equal alternative to in-person meetings and we’ll be answering questions about how, not if, our in-person retreats will be live-streamed. Now is the time to begin sharpening our principles and practices for the era of online companionship with individuals and groups that is already upon us.

Join spiritual directors Becky Eldredge and Sam Rahberg (New Contemplatives in 2013) for a single 3-hour session designed to help you hone your online identity and style as a listener and a retreat leader. The two will share some initial ideas gathered from their own practice and research, and then workshop questions like these with participants:

  • What practical ways are we experiencing and cultivating sacred space online?
  • What tools and processes help increase the sense of interpersonal engagement?
  • How are we engaging bodies and all of our senses in two-dimensional settings?
  • What invitation do we see in current challenges of adapting spiritual companionship to online settings?
  • What best practices are emerging from our experience together?
  • And other questions we might surface from participants before and during the session.
