Jim will reflect on the stories of growing up, the memories that shape us, and how spiritual companions can help others discover God’s presence in the unfolding narrative of their lives.

Fr. James Martin
Rev. James Martin, SJ, is a Jesuit priest, editor at large of America magazine, consultor to the Vatican’s Dicastery for Communication, and author of the New York Timesbestsellers Learning to Pray, Jesus: A Pilgrimage, and The Jesuit Guide to (Almost) Everything. Father Martin is a frequent commentator in the national and international media, having appeared on all the major networks and outlets, including The Colbert Report, NPR’s Fresh Air, The New York Times, and the Wall Street Journal.

Cynthia Bailey Manns
is the Director of Adult Learning at Saint Joan of Arc Catholic Community. Dr. Manns has also served as adjunct faculty at St. Mary’s University of Minnesota and Drew Theological School and is a contributor to the anthology, Embodied Spirits: Stories of Spiritual Directors of Color. She is an experienced soul companion, supervisor, and retreat leader. She is the former Board Chair of SDI.
Fr Jim Martin's New Memoir
Fr Martin will be sharing anecdotes and stories based on his new memoir, Work in Progress. In this humorous memoir, New York Times bestselling author Father James Martin tells the story of how he went from a busboy, dishwasher, caddy, usher, factory worker, bank teller, and corporate tool to a Jesuit priest.

- Everyone is invited to participate in SDI Webinars. You do not need to be an SDI Member.
- This single session will run approximately one hour, with Fr. Martin and Cynthia in conversation for roughly 40 minutes, and breakout groups offered for discernment. We understand that the timing of the seminar will not be convenient in every time zone on the planet. For those who have trouble making this time, a recorded copy of each session will be made available to all those who sign up.
- CEU credits are available for all those who participate. SDI will provide a certificate of completion for self-reporting to agencies. More information can be found here: continuing education units (CEUs).
