Why Join SDI Australia?

SDI Australia Convener

Jane Mahon

By profession, Jane is a rehabilitation consultant and the director of a national rehabilitation company supporting members of the Australian Defence Force living with injury and life disruption.

She teaches a form of spiritual resilience that is grounded, trauma-aware, and immediately usable. Her approach supports people to steady their nervous system, listen for wisdom, act with integrity, and return to the still point within.

After five years of spiritual direction and deepening contemplative practice, Jane entered Benedictine oblate formation with Benet Hill Monastery in Colorado in early 2023, making her oblation in late 2024 — a commitment to a fifteen-hundred-year-old rhythm of prayer, work, stability, and steadiness.

What she teaches now comes from all of it: the clinical training, the frontline years, and the wisdom of the mystics who worked out how to stay whole under pressure long before anyone called it resilience.

SDI Press - Books by Australian Authors

Philip Carter’s Ordinary Heaven (2024) is a quite extraordinary work that lovingly renders a lifetime of spiritual experience and reflection, honoring this very life and the sacred ministry of spiritual direction.

Spiritual Direction in Australia (2022) is an anthology contribution by ten different Australian authors. It offers writing and reflection from many researchers across a broad discipline of post-graduate studies in spirituality and spiritual direction.
