“We are called as we age from a focus on doing to the blessing of being.”
— Rev. Jane Vennard

What if growing older could become a practice of acceptance, letting go, and discovering new ways of being?
Aging is something we all experience, yet we rarely talk about it as a spiritual practice.
In this two-part webinar, Rev. Jane Vennard invites us to explore the spiritual dimensions of growing older—with honesty, humor, curiosity, and compassion.
Jane begins with a simple but profound practice: acceptance. What does it mean to accept our age, including changing energy, physical and mental limitations, and the realities we might sometimes wish to deny? And what becomes possible when acceptance leads us toward letting go—not only of things, but of former identities, roles, expectations, and beliefs?
Aging can also offer unexpected gifts: time to rest and ponder, the pleasure of not rushing, new ways of being present, and the possibility of replacing goals with simple intentions. Jane describes this as a movement from a focus on doing to the blessing of being.
For spiritual directors and companions, this exploration has another dimension. How do we listen differently to the concerns of our older companions? What attitudes and assumptions do we bring to aging? Where might we carry hidden biases or resist the realities of growing old?
And this conversation isn’t only for older adults. As Jane reminds us, we are all aging. Whether we are accompanying someone through later life, confronting our own changing circumstances, or simply wondering what the years ahead might hold, aging offers spiritual invitations worth noticing.
All ages are welcome. As Jane puts it: “At some time, hopefully we will all be old.”
Join Rev. Jane Vennard for a thoughtful exploration of what it means to grow older—and what aging might have to teach us about being fully present to our lives.
