Profile: Oliver is an experienced spiritual director and teacher who has ministered in a variety of contexts over the last twenty years. He is the co-founder of Spiritual Grounding, a dynamic platform for helping people access the riches of the Ignatian spiritual tradition. He is passionate about translating the ancient wisdom of the “Spiritual Exercises” for modern audiences and helping people awaken to God’s presence in their lives through their lived experience. Oliver specializes in accompanying people who are in discernment, navigating major life transitions, and those who feel marginalized from traditional Christian spaces. Oliver currently serves as the director of religious and spiritual life at Bowdoin College. Prior to his work at Bowdoin, he served in ministry leadership positions at Cornell University, Loyola University Chicago, and Boston College. Oliver earned his B.M. in Voice Performance from Gordon College and his M.Ed. in Religious Education from Boston College. He studied spiritual direction at Loyola's Institute for Pastoral Studies and received a certificate in spiritual direction from Loyola's Jesuit community, where he trained under Bill Creed, SJ. Oliver enjoys running, hiking, singing, cooking, bird-watching, and spending time with his partner and puppy.
