Profile: Hi! I’m Marby. You might be curious about what spiritual direction entails. Firstly, it's important to clarify that the term "direction" can be misleading. There isn't an agenda for spiritual direction sessions; there is an intention, and it is for you to develop a deeper understanding and trust in your own belovedness, as well as the inner resources, guidance, and authority that already exist within you. By connecting with your Center, you also connect with Guidance. During spiritual direction, we take the time to slow down and listen to the Divine within our hearts.
I have completed three-years of spiritual direction training, beginning with the Sacred Journey Program at Mercy Center in Burlingame, California. Following that, I pursued a two-year training program at The Benedictine Spiritual Direction Training Program at Benet Hill Monastery in Colorado.
My personal faith tradition is Christian, and I am drawn to the prayer and meditation practices of contemplative Christianity. While Christianity is my foundation, I also find great value in practices from other wisdom traditions that deepen my Christian faith.
In addition to seeing my own spiritual director every month, I also consider the following teachers to be my spiritual directors as their teachings have formed me over the years: Richard Rohr, Jim Finley, Thomas Merton, Thomas Keating, Henri Nouwen, St. Teresa of Avila, St. John of the Cross.
I am married and have three grown children and two adorable grandchildren. I used to work as an elementary school teacher, but now I am happily retired. I hold a bachelor's degree in child development and family studies. I like to read and write, cook and bake, walk in nature, and to spend time with family and friends.
