Presence Under Pressure: How Benedictine spirituality shapes chaplaincy, presence, and resilience in policing and ambulance work.
What does it mean for spiritual directors and companions to offer grounded, compassionate presence in high-pressure environments? This session explores how the wisdom of Benedictine spirituality—stability, listening, and attentiveness—can shape the way we accompany those serving on the frontlines of policing and ambulance work.
Through a reflective and engaging Q&A-style conversation, we will explore how Benedictine spirituality can shape presence in these settings, and what this may offer to the practice of spiritual direction more broadly. Together, we will consider how spiritual directors and companions can cultivate resilience, remain rooted amid crisis, and hold space for others with clarity, compassion, and care.
This session invites spiritual directors and companions into a deeper understanding of their role—not as problem-solvers, but as steady, prayerful presences who embody calm, compassion, and grounded awareness when it is needed most.
