Cinema Divina: A Contemplative Practice for Spiritual Companions

A Two-Part Webinar with M Freeman

In a world saturated with images, noise, and constant motion, many of us long for a slower, more intentional way of seeing — one that nourishes the heart, quiets the mind, and opens space for wisdom to emerge.

Cinema Divina is an invitation into just such a practice.

Hosted by filmmaker, writer, and spiritual director M Freeman, this two-part webinar offers a gentle yet powerful reimagining of the ancient contemplative practice lectio divina through the language of film. Rather than watching film as entertainment, Cinema Divina invites us to receive moving images as sacred text — something to dwell with, return to, and listen to deeply.

What Is Cinema Divina?

Cinema Divina is a contemplative film-screening process developed by M Freeman to support inner awareness, healing, and peace. Drawing on poetic, essayistic, and autobiographical short films created through contemplative practice, M guides participants through four increasingly revelatory viewings in each session.

Each viewing is woven with:

The result is a calming, nourishing experience that supports rest, insight, and spiritual imagination — a unique and accessible way of engaging in spiritual caregiving and accompaniment.

Why This Webinar, Now?

Many spiritual companions are tired. Many are carrying the weight of others’ stories alongside their own. Cinema Divina offers something rare: permission to slow down, to receive rather than produce, and to be held by beauty, rhythm, and silence.

Whether you come seeking insight, inspiration, rest, or simply a moment of connection with fellow spiritual caregivers, you will find yourself among kindred spirits.
