Profile: Hi, I'm Sarah. I’m a first-generation American, raised by incredibly resilient parents who immigrated from the West African nation of Côte d'Ivoire in the 1980s. My journey has been shaped by unique experiences: growing up quickly as the eldest of three siblings, navigating life as a third culture kid, and working to unlearn some of the harmful aspects of Western Christianity. These experiences have formed me into the woman I am today—someone who has discovered a liberating expression of Christian faith and continues growing toward the person God created me to be. Though I'm a Maryland girl at heart with an enduring love for blue crabs, I now call Washington D.C. home, where I live with my husband.

My introduction to spiritual direction came a few years ago when a friend began working with one through her local church. When I was later invited to join a training cohort, I discovered that spiritual direction is the studied art of deep listening on another's behalf. Learning this made me wish I had known to seek such a space of wondering and discernment during my own lonely journey of faith deconstruction and reconstruction. Yet I also recognized that I had been unconsciously offering something similar throughout my life. Family, friends, coworkers, and even strangers have consistently trusted me with their deepest struggles, often sharing that I provided a safe, compassionate space free from judgment where they could express their most vulnerable thoughts. Pursuing formal training as a spiritual director felt like discovering a missing piece of myself.

Currently, I’m completing a two-year spiritual direction apprenticeship with Coracle under two experienced spiritual directors who provide supervision and mentorship. Music has always felt central to my calling, so I regularly lead worship at my church and step in to help fill in for fellow worship leaders in the city when they are in need of rest. I maintain a bi-vocational approach to ministry, while working full-time for a beloved entertainment company known for creating magical experiences.

Are you seeking a safe space to explore questions about your faith or make sense of how culture and spirituality intersect in your life? Perhaps you're serving in ministry—whether part-time or full-time—and finding yourself burnt out and running on empty. Whatever brings you to this moment in your faith journey, I invite you into a space where you can sit quietly and listen for what God has in store for you.
