Profile:

"We do not 'do' the work of transformation. We simply go to the edge and let the elements we find there work against us, shape us into different, unrecognizable versions of ourselves. The triple pandemic of COVID, social inequality, and environmental crisis has brought us to the edge — the wild rim where mountains meet the sea, the place where our past and future selves meet face to face and the gusting winds, heaving waters, and fractured light we find there work to shape us anew."

– Samantha Wallen

the historical moment we are living in is demanding, disorienting, and exciting, too. i've accompanied people:

* in transitions of all kinds

* through times of loss and sorrow

* questioning their religious and spiritual identity and affiliation

* longing for depth, meaning, and connection.

consistent spiritual practice, spiritual community, wisdom traditions, and spiritual guidance are valuable supports, especially in these times.

a bit about me. i've lived in many places, including europe. but i'm a midwesterner at heart. fascinated by the world's diverse cultures and religious expressions, learning about how others see the world gives me more perspective on life. in mid-life i became more involved in the african american and activist community in detroit. when i moved to rural northern michigan, i began to make friends with the native peoples here. in the winter before last, i volunteered in a shelter for refugees at the u.s./mexico border. i speak french and am studying spanish. kayaking, spending time in nature, painting, poetry, and foraging are all current interests. i've been active in water, climate, and energy issues in my state for many years. for me, beloved community is the answer to just about everything.

a bit about my spiritual path: i was raised with a deep respect and reverence for the natural world. my immediate family was nominally catholic. for much of my adult life, i would have called myself spiritual, but not religious. that changed when i began sitting with a zen buddhist community in an historic quaker meeting house. i found another spiritual home in the interfaith movement. in seminary, i was invited to a kabbalat shabbat service at a friend's jewish renewal congregation and fell in love. i've been involved with a renewal community in michigan for many years. i would call myself religiously fluid. i feel at home in many wisdom traditions and am committed to building bridges of friendship and understanding between traditions.

a bit about my work in the world. surprising transitions have been the norm. i taught french in higher education, but full-time positions were scarce at the time . i ended up working at a fortune 500 company for many years and got to work at our european headquarters in paris. after taking a buyout, i had a small life and leadership coaching practice for ten years. as my work with people deepened, i wanted more spiritual grounding and professional community. i was ordained as an interfaith minister and served as a hospital chaplain. as a hospice volunteer i've offered reiki to patients and family members. i've offered spiritual companionship and guidance for four years.

an exploratory conversation is always welcome. blessings on the path.

"Know all the theories. Master all the techniques. But as you touch a human soul be just another human soul."

– Carl Jung
