Profile: Listening—to one another and the Holy Spirit—is at the center of my practice of spiritual direction, a practice that is at once both traditional and charismatic. Our conversation will be a safe place regardless of your circumstances, one that I will approach with compassion and respect. ||~+~|| In a world where so many want to be known by their distinctives, I still hear Jesus saying that his disciples will be known by their love for one another (Jn 13:35). He also prayed that his disciples might be one in his name (Jn 17:11). My life and ministry have moved across several Christian traditions and faith streams, so I do my best to set aside any bias that might linger from any particular denomination or movement and simply relish our common confession that Jesus Christ is Lord. ||~+~|| There have also been periods in my life when I described myself as “spiritual but not religious,” and I understand the feeling of being wounded by a local church. Still, I recognize that we are created for life together in fellowship and community. Along the way, I have experienced the power and guidance of the Holy Spirit and I recognize that as I have drawn near to God, he has drawn near to me (Jas 4:8). ||~+~|| Regarding spiritual practices, I am entering a third decade of recognizing the true power of what might best be called “stillness”—that combination of solitude and silence that provides a wonderful atmosphere for meeting and knowing God (Ps 46:10). Prayer in its many forms is essentially an on-going conversation with the Lord, one that I have found increasingly fruitful as I do more listening than speaking. ||~+~|| My education includes a Master of Practical Theology from The King’s University, and I have completed certification through the Spiritual Direction Training Program at Truett Seminary. I look forward to helping you discern God’s presence and activity in your life.
