Waking up spiritually can help us feel deeply alive. As Carl Gustav Jung said: Life goes better with consciousness.

How do we wake up to this life-giving consciousness?

This 2-part webinar series is all about waking up to Reality, especially for deep listeners who offer spiritual care to others. It’s hosted by SDI Poetry Editor Jinks Hoffmann, a psychotherapist and spiritual director, and the author of the new SDI Press book, The Light of God’s Shadow. Musings, Stories and Poems on Waking Up. She will be using her new book as inspiration as she dialogues with two other deeply experienced spiritual directors, Sandra Lommasson and Rabbi Amy Eilberg. Their focus: how spiritual directors and companions can “wake up more” – and how they can support those they companion to do the same.

As spiritual directors, companions and spiritual caregivers, we know that the first step to waking up is to listen deeply—beyond the noise of our thoughts, by paying loving attention to our feelings and our bodies, by welcoming our fears and our awe. The invitation is to deeply listen to the miracle of the moment in all its complexity of light and dark.

Jinks Hoffmann is author of “The Light of God’s Shadow – Musings, Stories, and Poems on Waking Up.” The book is recommended reading for the webinar series, though not required. The book purchase is not included in the webinar cost. We recommend you order it now so you will have a chance to read it before the webinar series begins.

Life is inviting you to listen. We'll explore how this happens ...

Why register for this webinar?

You will be invited to wake up, to learn more about yourself as a spiritual companion, and to be deepened in compassion for others and for yourself. You will receive the wisdom of deeply experienced and creative spiritual directors Jinks Hoffmann, Sandra Lommasson and Rabbi Amy Eilberg to inspire and support you. And you will explore what Jinks calls her “3 Holy Obsessions”: 1)  Waking up by listening 2) Life and the Divine as the sources of both dark and light; 3)  Psychospiritual work as a sacred practice.

Sessions

Session 1: Dark, Light and Shadow

We will explore the unity of these ways of experiencing spiritual life. We will look at community, the collective/archetypal shadow and explore how waking up means experiencing all life more deeply. Although we are living through a profoundly dark time in history, there is always the possibility to experience beauty and wonder. And we will do all this in the context of what these concepts mean for spiritual direction, companionship and other kinds of listening care. Jinks Hoffmann will be in dialogue with Sandra Lommasson who is the founder of The Bread of Life Center and a former member of the SDI Coordinating Council.

Session 2: The Holy Work of Awakening to our Shmutz -and to the Deep Goodness and Beauty in our Unconscious.

This session is about becoming more conscious of, and working with, the dark and the light in the personal shadow. Jinks Hoffmann will be in dialogue with Amy Eilberg, who is the first woman ordained as a Conservative rabbi by the Jewish Theological Seminary of America and a peace and justice educator and activist.
