Learn how to companion people through dream work.

Dream work is a path to self-discovery. And spiritual companions can act as dream guides – supporting people as they find their own ways to greater self-knowledge and a deeper connection with the divine/transcendent. This 4-session webinar series is designed for spiritual companions. All those who offer spiritual care – formally or informally – are welcome. Indeed, anyone who feels drawn to learn from their own dreams is invited to participate. Participants will explore the following methods:

  • Projective dream work – This is where one person’s dream is shared with a group in an atmosphere of mutual respect. All who listen to the original dream then re-imagine it for themselves. A discussion ensues often producing insights both for the original dreamer and those who create an imagined version of the dream;
  • Using archetypes and symbology in translating dream messages;
  • Engaging with image and creativity to access deeper dream meanings; and
  • Embracing dream work for spiritual growth and the individuation process.

The privilege of a lifetime is

to become who you truly are.

~C.G. Jung

One of the most profound methods of self-discovery is dream work. This might sound like a challenging and lonely task. But the truth is – anyone can do it and no one has to do it alone.

Indeed, spiritual companions can act as dream guides – supporting people as they engage with dreams, as they find their own ways to greater self-knowledge and a deeper connection with the divine.

Nightly dreams have long been known as divine messages – ideas and images that come to restore psychological balance and equilibrium. Carl Jung’s psycho-spiritual concepts can be used to open a communication channel between the conscious and unconscious worlds, allowing us to translate the metaphor and symbol of dream language into waking life meanings helpful for growth and healing.

This 4-session webinar series is designed for spiritual companions who want to learn how dream work can deepen and expand the inner work of the spiritual journey. All those who offer spiritual care – formally or informally – are welcome. Indeed, anyone who feels drawn to learn from their own dreams is invited to participate.

Until you make the unconscious conscious,

it will direct your life and you will call it fate.

~ C.G. Jung

An Invitation

The universal and mystical qualities of dreams can bring profound connection – building compassion and community with others by first forging a better relationship with our own deeper selves.

We invite you to explore this connection with us:

  • to embark on a inward journey so that you may feel an outward kinship with all around you;
  • to learn more about how to companion others through dreams.

Dream work is a method of engaging the interior Higher Self

which is always working on our health and wholeness.

What to Expect if You Join Us

Participants will be introduced to – and invited to explore – the following methods:

  • Projective dream work – This is where one person’s dream is shared with a group in an atmosphere of mutal respect. All who listen to the orginal dream then re-imagine it for themselves. A discussion ensues often producing insights both for the original dreamer and those who create an imagined version of the dream;
  • Using archetypes and symbology in translating dream messages;
  • Engaging with image and creativity to access deeper dream meanings; and
  • Embracing dream work for spiritual growth and the individuation process.

Our Approach

Life learning, not book learning. Experiential, contemplative, spiritual. We want to open a gateway to understanding and connection.  We’d rather companion you to an insight than impress you with a list of facts. Because most of our audience are spiritual directors and companions including chaplains, life coaches and others who offer spiritual care, we focus on the practical and care-giving side of the equation. Of course, since we all dream, this webinar series can benefit anyone. And anyone with a sense of curiosity (and adventure!) is welcome, no matter what spiritual tradition – or inclination – they honor.

Dreams are not an an escape from reality,

but a portal to truth and integration.

When

You can enjoy the webinar any time you like. Each session is recorded so you can watch at your convenience.

Course Description

Session 1 –Anyone’s Dream Can Be Everyone’s Dream (with projective dream work demonstration) “Allen Proctor will introduce himself, the Haden Institute and some basics of dream work including an in-depth discussion of projective dream work in a group. Allen will talk about symbols, metaphor, archetypes, associations and amplification as they relate to dream work. A significant part of this session will be a live group demonstration of projective dream work and a discussion of the experience.

Session 2 – Deepening Soul Work Diana McKendree talks about how translating dream messages into waking life meaning effects the spiritual journey. Both dreams and spirituality are pathways for consciously engaging the unconscious, which can mitigate the negative impact of the unconscious and help us live with uncertainty and unknowing with greater equanimity. Diana explores how dream work gets to the deepest issues of spiritual companionship: who am I? what is my purpose? who is God – or however you term the ground of all being? how does my relationship with God give my life meaning? She will explain how dream work improves our connection with the Divine, our inner selves, and the world, creating greater awareness, compassion, and self-compassion.

Session 3 – Accessing the Holy through Creativity (with group demonstration) – – Sheila Petruccelli expands participants understandings of the dream by taking an image into the creative realm. Jung teaches that deep transformation occurs not just by understanding the dream but by intensely engaging with the dream images. Using collage, paints, textiles, poetry and creative journaling Sheila provides tools and examples for using creativity to engage the dream images. Members of the dream group will meet in a beautifully curated creative space to work with an abiding image meaningful to them from the dream and process the image in co-creation with the transcendent.

Session 4 – Dream Work Demonstration – Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate. ~ C.G. Jung … Allen Proctor will work a dream with SDI’s Steven Crandell, followed by a deeper exploration of themes from the previous sessions. We’ll focusing on how the tools for dream work may lead to deeper self-understanding during group sessions. We’ll also examine individual dream work and how spiritual companions may use these dream tools in their own sessions.

Presenters

Allen Proctor is Director of the Haden Institute, which offers training in spiritual direction and dream work. He is himself a spiritual director, a dream worker, and a Presbyterian minister. His passion is the teaching and learning that is embodied at the Haden Institute, inviting deeper self-awareness and making the world a better place. Allen works with others to explore questions of identity, relationships, vocation and meaning, using Dream Work, the Enneagram, the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, meditation practices and creation spirituality. He will lead one of the most popular workshops at the 30th Anniversary SDI Conference in Santa Fe, April 23-26.

Diana McKendree – As a senior faculty member with the Haden Institute, Diana trains others in Spiritual Direction and Dream Work. She has been fascinated with images for as long as she can remember. This has led her to explore a variety of professions – from graphic design to iconography. Trained as a Jungian psychotherapist, Diana is a skilled educator, working internationally as a keynote speaker, consultant, leader of women’s pilgrimages, and iconography. Ordained as an Interfaith Minister, Diana continues to search for the common threads that weave humanity and soul together. She lives in the North Carolina mountains with her husband, Fran, and their four-legged companions, where she divides her time between her private spiritual direction and dream work practice, travel engagements, and numerous creative endeavors.

Sheila Petruccelli – As Director of Creative Embodiment for the Haden Institute, Sheila holds sacred space for those seeking to integrate, process and ritualize promptings of the soul. She sees creative work as holy work, knowing Carl Jung spoke truth when he said, “the hands will solve a mystery that the intellect has struggled with in vain.” She draws on a variety of tools including poetry, dreams, symbology, astrology, painting and collage. With a gift for reading energy and interpreting images, Sheila honors the unseen, the unknown and the unimaginable. Her personal prayer life includes dance music, glue sticks and lots and lots of candles.
