This gathering is a special opportunity to connect with fellow spiritual directors and those engaged in spiritual accompaniment who are living and working across the African continent. \n\n\n\nAs an emerging community\, our hope is to deepen relationships\, explore our shared calling\, and nurture a network that honours the beautiful diversity of cultures\, languages\, lived realities\, and spiritual traditions across Africa. Together\, we will share who we are as SDI Africa\, explore our connection to the wider Spiritual Directors International network\, and prepare the ground for our formal launch. \n\n\n\nThis mixer is more than just a meeting; it is an entry point into an ongoing community of practice\, mutual support\, and shared leadership. \n\n\n\nWho Should Attend? We are warmly inviting: \n\n\n\n\nSpiritual directors living and working on the African continent.\n\n\n\nCompanions offering the practice of spiritual direction in different contexts\, including chaplains\, retreat facilitators\, spiritual care providers\, and life coaches integrating spirituality and spiritual direction into their vocation.\n\n\n\nFaith-based\, interfaith and interspiritual spiritual directors\, accompaniers and companions.\n\n\n\n\nThis invitation is for people who live and work on the African continent\, regardless of country of origin. \n\n\n\nEvent Flow To honour our time together\, we have prepared a gentle and engaging flow for our gathering: \n\n\n\n\nWelcoming – Wanjîkū J. DESCRIPTION:The transforming power of queer rituals \n\n\n\nWe are especially honored to welcome Rabbi Chaya Gusfield for this gathering. In our precious time together\, we will explore the role of rituals in the queer community– intentional practices of reclamation\, healing\, and joy designed to honor our milestones\, bodies\, and identities\, opening and closing rituals in our spiritual direction sessions. Also\, we will explore how rituals impact the spiritual lives of our directees. \n\n\n\nBring yourself\, a journal\, and an open mind/heart. \n\n\n\nThis one hour session is for those that identify as LGBTQIA+\, including nonbinary\, gender fluid\, genderqueer\, bi-gender\, and agender spiritual directors and spiritual companions who would like to connect with other LGBTQIA+ spiritual directors and spiritual companions. \n\n\n\nAbout Rabbi Chaya Gusfield: \n\n\n\nRabbi Chaya Gusfield is a spiritual director serving individuals\, groups\, and rabbinical students. She is also a Retired Board-Certified Chaplain\, mom\, writer\, and artist. She is passionate about creative expression as a path to deepen spirituality and cope with grief and illness. She has been on an active spiritual leadership path for more than 20 years and continues to learn more every day. DESCRIPTION:Join Joan Alexander for an Introduction to the Labyrinth: \n\n\n\nAn ancient path that offers a powerful welcome to all those who find it. With music\, movement\, and blessings\, you will be guided on a virtual walk with invitations to pause along the path for quiet contemplation. \n\n\n\nAlso\, you will have the choice of meeting in small groups to discuss your walk OR you may stay in the main room with Joan to virtually walk the Ghost Ranch labyrinth in New Mexico\, USA. And\, you will come away with tools to bring the labyrinth into your practice of spiritual companionship with others. \n\n\n\nEvent is open to all spiritual directors and companions in Canada. \n\n\n\nFacilitated By\n\n\n\n\nJoan Alexander (she/her) currently lives in Ottawa\, ON\, Canada and has a robust practice of seekers\, supervisees and students. She also serves on the faculty of several formation programs in North America and offers independent SD Supervision webinars\, based on the teachings of her mentor\, Lucy Abbott Tucker.  \n\n\n\nJoan studied spiritual direction at The Haden Institute in their Canadian program.
