New SDI Mission and Vision Statement,
SDI Coordinating Council, 2021
From this issue's Focus, by Rev. Seifu Anil Singh-Molares
Power is the elephant in the room in every spiritual direction session, and it is the responsibility of the director to equalize the power. To address power, we must begin by rethinking our thinking, a phrase used by Christian philosopher Dallas Willard to describe repentance. Power is not something that we can just rid ourselves of. We cannot entirely empty ourselves of power as power was given by the Divine to every human person through the ability to choose. To attempt to empty ourselves of power is as futile as attempting to empty ourselves of ego. Power is a flow, an active dynamic happening within and between persons and systems at any given time or place.

At a just concluded retreat of SDI’s Coordinating Council (or “Board of Directors”), it was decided that we would optimize our mission statement to bring the organization’s focus into sharper relief.
